HAAST

Haast is a place of unsurpassed natural beauty, untouched beaches and rugged glacial river valleys. The perfect destination to explore some of New Zealand’s most unique scenery and wildlife, Haast is situated amidst spectacular and rugged scenery of the South West New Zealand World Heritage area.

I didn’t think the scenery could get much more impressive but I was very mistaken. The drive from Wanaka to Haast is by far the best drive I have ever driven. The continuously changing landscape will be sure to take your breath away. I mean really how many times can you say WOW what an amazing view in one drive.

The Collyer House

Neroli Nolan is fourth generation of a pioneering family and has travelled extensively enjoying many interesting careers before returning home to build Collyer House. Collyer House offers Bed and Breakfast style accommodation with a backdrop of ancient rainforest, mountains, the Okuru River estuary and the Tasman Sea- what more could you ask for?

It was so nice to stay in a B&B again, especially one as peaceful and quiet as The Collyer House. The only noise in the background was the distant pounding of the surf and the song of the native birds.

The Bed and Breakfast offers four quality ensuite rooms, all with wonderful views and French doors to the veranda. Each room is individually furnished and provides guests with their own spacious sanctuary. Neroli has supplied all the little extras that will be sure to make your stay one that you won’t forget. Including thick, cosy bathrobes, a hairdryer, and toiletries.

The living area features a grand fireplace made from local stone, and was a great place to relax and work on my blog. Then there is the outdoor area, which is made from huge slabs of local schist and is the perfect place to soak up the sights and sounds of nature.

Aside from her love for providing high class accommodation, Neroli has a passion for photography and proudly displays her work throughout the Collyer House. Her website www.nerolinolan.com will show you some of the amazing landscapes she has captured just minutes from Collyer House.

Neroli is proud to carry on a family tradition of great hospitality and will be sure to amaze you with her knowledge about the history of South Westland. Prices start from $250, which includes tea and coffee making facilities, wireless Internet, and a hearty West Coast cooked breakfast.

We also went on the Hapuka Estuary Walk, an easy 20minute stroll.

Cat braved the wild wind and rain and shot some awesome photos at the beach- I know I'm a wimp.
