BLUFF

Our flight from Stewart Island had a smooth landing in Invercargill at 6pm. We had left our van in the secure car park at the Stewart Island Experience Depot in Bluff and therefore had no means of getting from Invercargill to Bluff. So Raymond, the owner of Stewart Island Flights kindly drove us to our van in Bluff. This meant that we didn’t arrive at our accommodation until around 7pm and had to leave early in the morning for our WJet ride. From what I did see of Bluff, which wasn’t much it is a very beautiful township.

Bluff Lodge

Bluff Lodge backpackers is perfectly located across from the Stewart Island Experience Depot and offers beautiful views of Bluff harbour. Built in 1899 and originally used as the Bluff Post Office, I have been told that the building is still the most impressive building in Bluff.

We didn’t get to spend much time with Karen and Lex (the owners and operators of Bluff Lodge) but they seem like lovely people. Their aim is to provide a range of affordable accommodation, which I believe they have achieved. We enjoyed a comfortable nights sleep in one of their private rooms. They also offer basic backpacker dorms and a well-appointed Guest House.

The lodge provides off-street parking in a fully enclosed backyard, free of charge. You can also leave your car here if you are travelling to Stewart Island for a charge of $3.
Bluff Lodge is the perfect stop over between Invercargill and Stewart Island. Prices start from $18 per night without bedding (sheets, duvet etc.) and $23 with bedding.

Really enjoyed having the two girls stay with us.They were very nice ambassadors. Mayor Tim did arrive with your book girls. Being a very resourceful guy I'm sure he got it to you. Appreciated what you put in for us. Sorry we didn't see you in the morning.
Travel well.
Best wishes, Lex and Karen
