Located an easy one hour drive south of Christchurch, Methven is a popular year round South Island holiday destination for visitors who enjoy ‘the great outdoors’. It is only 45minutes from Mt. Hutt, which I have been told is one of the best ski fields in New Zealand.

YHA Methven, Mt Hutt Village Flashpackers

YHA Flashpackers is situated in the town centre of Methven so is a great place to stay during the winter season if you are a keen skier or snowboarder (only 45 minutes away).



The hostel provides guests with clean, modern and affordable bed and breakfast style backpacker lodge accommodation. It is a very up-market backbackers that provides a free continental breakfast every morning as well as complimentary tea and coffee all day.

The kitchen and bathrooms are up to date with modern décor and furnishings. There is also a spa pool that we didn’t get to use, which looked very inviting. The communal dinning area is really comfy and offers wireless Internet connection as well as Sky TV. We met some really cool people there who came from all different parts of the world.



We were only walking distance from Methven’s many cafes, restaurants and shops. There are two supermarkets just about on the Backpackers doorstep. We bought groceries from one of the supermarkets and cooked our own meals.
