DIAMOND HARBOUR

It was a shame that we couldn’t spend more time here because the harbour is magnificent! It is such a quaint English style town with spectacular views from most of the restaurants and cafes.

Bergli Farm

Bergli Farm is nestled on the top of Bergli Hill in Diamond Harbour. The view and tranquillity from their 40hectare farm is just astonishing. The view speaks for itself just by looking at the photos, which do not give justice to how amazing it truly is.

Rowena and Max designed and built their dream chalet about 14 years ago for the purpose of opening a bed and breakfast one day. They opened their home as B&B 9 years ago and have established a very high standard of hospitality.

There are three guest rooms with a queen and a single bed in each, and the possibility of an extra bed. I stayed in the Lavender Room and it was just beautiful. There is a strong Japanese influence throughout the house from the years that Rowena and Max spent in Japan.

Whatever your holiday plan is, whether it is adventure based, sightseeing, hiking or just relaxing Bergli Farm can offer it all. We arrived at around 6.30pm after a very long day in Akaroa. Cat and I had something to eat, unpacked then relaxed into the spa overlooking the whole of Diamond Harbour. It honestly felt like a sanctuary retreat from the hub and buz where you really can unwind.

For breakfast Rowena made fresh blueberry muffins using blueberries picked from her garden. Not your traditional breakfast but I personally think it was much better than fried eggs and bacon!

Before breakfast Max the ‘speed demon’ took me for a spin on his quad bike up the mountain on meter wide dirt tracks. I fed alpacas, met his cows and had an amazing view from the very top of the mountain behind his Chalet. All in all it was a very fun morning! Max is such a character you can’t help but laugh with im as he tells stories and does funny dances with the Alpacas.

One of the other guests from Japan was participating in Rowena’s and Max’s English Academy. This specializes in small groups and one-to-one tuition, through experiencing farm based activities. 15 hours of formal tuition and 15 hours of chosen activities make up one week of study.

We were quite sad we could only spend one night here but I would definitely recommend the Bergli Farm Stay B&B to anyone visiting Diamond Harbour.
